Ellen: Embellish Your Décolletage

I was born too late. It’s just that simple. I love all things vintage. I especially love old postcards and other ephemera; I have stacks and stacks of it spilling out of drawers and stashed in old tins in my train-station, roll-top desk.
Kim and I and some other crazy gals started getting together for “Girlie Art Weekends” where we invaded someone’s house (we love Jodi’s in Warrenton) and giggled and ate and drank and told stories while we completed an art project. One time (or two!) it was beaded jewelry, another time we did mosaics and yet another we played with Sculpey and shaving cream. Really.
Out of those experiences came my vintage collage necklaces, which I absolutely love to make. They are handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces that use real postcards, letters, maps, travel brochures, tickets, stamps, sewing patterns, cards, photographs, old magazines, four-leaf clovers and flowers from my garden, and feathers that came courtesy of my cats and my fly-tying father-in-law. To name a few.
I feel I honor these small pieces of the past; they capture a time and a feeling that should be treasured. I invite you to embellish your décolletage (or someone else’s!) with a one-of-a-kind, handmade necklace.
